Mention the famous National Geographic Afghan Girl picture, you think of Steve McCurry right away. The image of the girl with her shy, yet intense eyes is vivid in your mind. That image speaks for Steve McCurry on its own, one of the most outstanding photographers in our times. Widely known for his characteristic style of capturing the intimate essence of human beings, he has recently launched a book, titled Steve McCurry: The Iconic Photographs, a large format limited edition book that features 165 of his most famous photographs.

I may have seen some of Steve McCurry’s great works, having been exposed to his talks and exhibitions, but nothing beats having intimate access to McCurry’s best images in printed format. This book captures scenes from parts of Asia and the Middle East and instantly brings the viewer to distant lands. Through McCurry’s vision and sensitivity, the viewers are allowed to witness the day-to-day joys and sadness, courage and frailty of his subjects.

At times inspiring, other times introspective, McCurry brings out the human-ness in each of his subjects. This book serves as a reminder that photography transcends cultures, geography and any boundaries Mankind sets forth for himself.
