In Limbo in Japan

Japan is the third largest donor to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, but among developed nations, has one of the lowest acceptance rates for refugees seeking asylum in their country – accepting just 507 refugees since 1982.

For those who seek asylum in Japan, life can be tough with little assistance from the government and the constant threat of detention and deportation.

In Limbo in Japan is an ongoing project in which I document the lives of asylum seekers in central Japan.
