Tokyo: Static

Tokyo is still the biggest metropolis in the world – famous for her perfection, vastness and rhythm. It’s a city where it is easy to get lost.

As a foreigner, my knowledge of Japanese culture is obviously limited so I tried to describe this sense of isolation through the relationship between people and their surroundings. The inspiration came from a video I saw some years ago where people celebrating a victory for the national football team could not find free space to congregate and had to keep running on the streets. I wanted to produce a different point of view – concentrating on moments of stillness in the otherwise overwhelming urban sprawl.
