A Certain Grace: Photography from Bandung Exhibition

From 23 Aug to 30 Sept 2012, the photographic works of three Bandung artists will be shown at the Esplanade Tunnel, Singapore. Their works address the idea of grace in different ways. Deden Hendan Durahman celebrates the grace of the human body and our universal desire for beauty in “Corpus; Up and Down” (2007). In “The Orchestra” (2011- ), Sari Asih looks for a certain grace in the grainy colours and blurred motion of her panoramic images, driven by her personal need to find balance as an artist, a mother, a wife and a nomad in Bandung. Henrycus Napit Sunargo, on the other hand, unpacks his domestic life with “Afterimage” (2000-2010) as a means of paying tribute and saying grace to his family.

Public Artist Talk at IPA Gallery

On Thursday, 23rd August 2012 at 7PM, IPA Gallery will be hosting an accompanying Public Artist Talk, moderated by Zhuang Wubin.

In this presentation, the three artists will talk about their diverse photographic practices, which encompass street photography, digital manipulation, performance and familial ethnography. They will also discuss the development of contemporary photography in Bandung, with a special focus on the roles played by the fine art faculty at the Institute Technology of Bandung and the independent photo collectives (like Black Man Ray and Distorted Darkroom).
