Re-visioning

Singapore, a home foreign to me.

Years away and back, I saw familiar faces but unfamiliar souls.

I had no material lack but felt incredibly poor.

With greed fueling alienation, I lost touch with humanity.

I led a superficial life and felt deceived by my country’s indoctrination.

Her ideals were suffocating. I began to resent the home I once loved.

Depression soon consumed me. My life was destructing.

Death was nigh, but God was quicker in his ways.

My loved ones called my name. I woke up and responded.

I restarted my life.

I sang the national anthem once more. In a bitter, but sweetening symphony.

Beauty and life is what you, yourself, make of it.

  1. Beautiful essay Christian– I loved the way you sequenced the images, and combined both details of Singapore as well as the people. It has a very solemn feel to it– a bit sad but at the same time a bit hopeful. I wish you the best in your future projects as well, thanks to IPA for featuring this project!
