Submission Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Here you will find answers to Frequently Asked Questions regarding submissions of photographs and art to Invisible Ph t grapher Asia.
How can I share my photographs and work on Invisible Ph t grapher Asia?
Consider sharing and showcasing your photo essays with the IPA Community in our IPA Community Forums. We view the forums daily and spotlight our favourite posts and photo entries posted by the IPA community. You may also submit work to be featured on our main Invisible Blog via our Submission Forms.
How many photographs and essays can I submit?
You may submit as many photo singles, essays and invisible portraits as you like. But we recommend that you be selective and submit only your best work. Do not spam the us with multiple submissions at once – we might delete them. If you feel you have a few great pieces worth submitting, do so in stages – stagger your submissions.
What about copyright?
You, the photographer and creator, will always own the rights to your photographs and art. By submitting your work, you give Invisible Ph t grapher Asia explicit rights to publish, showcase and use your photographs and art on it’s website and other official communication channels. Wherever possible, the photographer and creator will always be credited.
Can I add a watermark to my photographs?
Adding a watermark to your photographs is your prerogative. However, we’re not fans. We feel that watermarks add an unnecessary scar to the images and are not a very effective prevention against theft as they are too easily scrubbed off. So do note our bias against watermarks should you choose to add them to your submissions.
Do my photographs need to be black and white?
No, there is no preference or prerequisite to choice in color or monotone in the photographs and work we feature. Shoot and submit what’s right in your eyes.
Can I submit non-Asia photographs or essays?
Invisible Ph t grapher Asia’s area of interest is street photography and visual journalism in Asia. We only accept submissions related to Asia by means of geography and/or photographer – the photographs must have been taken in Asia, or taken by an Asian photographer.
Asia covers Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Georgia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste (East Timor), Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.
What is street photography and visual journalism?
There are as many definitions and approaches as there are photographers and practitioners. Do some research, browse our Street Photography and Documentary and Visual Journalism posts, and formulate your own interpretation and approach to the genres. There is no right or wrong – just bad, good and better.
What file formats and specifications should I submit my photographs in?
Please submit pictures resized to 1200 pixels on the long side (width for landscape, height for portrait), in JPG or JPEG format, with a maximum file size of 2MBs each only. For optimal screen display, save your images in the sRGB color space. Do ensure that your pictures have standard aspect ratio dimensions i.e. 3×2, 4×3, 5×4, 6×6, 6×7, or 16×9 etc.
