KILT, Cambodian Flux

I landed in Cambodia with the preconceived idea of working on foreign volunteers.

Everybody knows that Cambodia has the highest rate of land mine casualties and more than 5 million orphans, so it attracts many foreign volunteers as well as Foreign aid. However, no concrete results or solutions have been achieved and there was time when I started questioning myself, why am I doing this? and thus reached a point of mental blackout, No answers, no story ideas, and nothing seemed to be working but eventually, I found my answer in Muy Seu Bel, a landmine victim at the age of seven, who now runs a program called KILT. Through this program, Bel has provided work opportunities for people with disabilities, who design and sell jewellery, and the revenue generated is utilised at the orphanage run by Bel himself.

So, Muy Seu Bel was a perfect answer to me, an example of self-empowerment and an ideal solution for people of Cambodia. No matter how much the foreign aid is pumped into the nation, the only solution Cambodia has is self empowerment!
