Ruan Yizhong 阮义忠: Taiwan’s Henri Cartier-Bresson

Photographer Ruan Yizhong 阮义忠 (a.k.a Juan I-Jong) was born in 1950 in Taiwan. He was editor of Photographers International magazine and  is referred to by some as Taiwan’s Henri Cartier-Bresson. Ruan has also been credited for building bridges between Chinese and western photography.

“Photography must go beyond simple reportage to affirm what it records. Every step of the process, beginning with the choice of subject, aperture, angle, etc., is an act of affirmation that each of us must take, consciously seeking an ideal, as in life, that asserts and affirms the value and meaning of what we shoot.” Ruan Yizhong
