Motoyuki Daifu: Project Family
I was an nominator for the fifth cycle of the Prix Pictet themed Consumption. Unfortunately, my nominees did not make the eleven shortlisted artists announced on 13th November 2013. There was one however, that caught my eye which I found surprising and brave a choice – Tokyo-born photographer Motoyuki Daifu’s Portrait Project of his Family. Looking at the pictures, I find Motoyuki and his family indulging me in a foreign yet familiar mundanity. I look for a small spot to sit amidst the mess. Their ‘matter of fact’ abode, flash-lit and bare, is unsettlingly comforting.
Motoyuki Daifu’s family is as he says ‘a pubis so he covers it with pretty panties’.
More on: The family is a pubis. so I cover it with pretty panties.
Motoyuki Daifu’s book on the project is unfortunately out of print.
