Photographer Spotlight: Seah Wei Chuan, Singapore

I was recently a nominator for Platform TEN, an annual presentation by PLATFORM.sg of ‘new faces’ to watch in Singapore Photography. My nominee was Seah Wei Chuan, a young Singapore lad who previously participated in a few of my street photography workshops.

My nomination citation:

“When I first saw Wei Chuan’s images on flickr, I felt that I was looking at a raw talent with youthful ambition. After hearing about his confusion photographing in the streets, I gave him a little ‘boring’ assignment – to observe and photograph benches on Orchard Road. The resulting images, while unpolished, were surprising and revealed a great photographic eye and sensibility. His portfolio and voice have been growing stronger by the day and I’m sure that if he continues to feed off his ambition and stays curious, he will one day realize his dream of becoming a great Singaporean Photographer.”

Wei Chuan is currently waiting to be called up by his country to perform his National Service. Check out his Photo Essay: Life as a bench and more of his work on Flickr:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/1337twit/
