Lately we have been discussing the various bodies of photographic work on trains, subways and commuters by photographers all over the world. One such we’d like to spotlight here is ‘Chinese on the Train’ by Beijing-based photographer Wang Fuchun. Wang documented extensively the railroads of China – the  locomotives and millions of travelers commuting to and fro big cities and small towns.

A quote from Curator Liu Shuyong “Wang spent decades recording all sorts of unique moments on trains. “Chinese People on the Train” is a metaphor. It symbolizes a transient and congested China where people have no goals and don’t know where they are going. But every passenger has to apply willpower and hard work to complete their odyssey.”
