Your Pictures have 3 Seconds max to Make The Cut, or Not.

Pictures of the Year International (POYi) is currently live webcasting the judging process for their 2014 competition. POYi is produced by the Missouri School of Journalism and focused on press and news photography. There are 4 judges per category – 2 votes qualify a picture for the next round of judging. Shahidul Alam is a judge in the Reportage category.

We spent over an hour observing the live judging of the News Category Feature Singles. Experiencing the webcast was strangely not unlike zooming through Facebook’s flooded timeline of images – In/Out, Like, Dislike, In/Out, Like, Dislike… 2 observations – 1) Your Pictures have 3 seconds max to make the cut, or not; 2) Good old surprise and mystery, an ever-increasing rarity, still takes the trophy.
