2018 Young Portfolio Award Finalist

Template of Ideal Homes, by Liu Liu

My grandfather died when my mother was a child, a year later my grandmother remarried, and my mother was adopted by her uncle.

My mother always wants all family members live together. A few years ago, my mother’s dream came true. A development area was built in our city, my family bought an apartment there. Then the most of our relatives moved there, too. My mother designed and decorated their homes, although she had no experience in interior design. Last summer, my mother asked me to document these homes that she decorated.

Liu Liu was born in Hengyang, Hunan province, China. She graduated from Fudan University with a master degree in Computer Science. She’s now a senior student in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and will receive her BFA degree in May, 2018. She has been awarded Fred Endsley Memorial Fellowship, runner-up winner of PhotoAlliance Home Show and School of the Art Institute of Chicago Merit Scholarship. Her work has been exhibited in Mana Contemporary Chicago, Zhou B Art Center, Sullivan Gallery, Pitch Project Gallery and Chicago Art Book Fair 2017.
