Overview of Editorial Photography Rates in Asia

Here is a broad overview of some of the results
from the Asia Photography Rates Survey.

As expected, rates vary from country to country and according to level of experience and network.

In all cases, photographers kept copyright with some embargo periods of approximately 2 weeks to 6 months depending on copyright agreements. There were a few joint copyright agreements with opt-out negotiations available for those working with organizations syndicating content.

Travel and expenses were covered or not, pending assignment.

Almost all photographers in the survey indicated a favorable preference to working with international publications. Some choose strictly to not to work with local publications in their countries.

Payment of invoices vary from from an average 2 weeks to 3 months.

While this first survey is by no means exhaustive, we hope this overview will provide some insights as a starting guide for photographers working in Asia.
