Yasunori Matsui, CAPTIVITY

These photos were all taken at the zoo in Japan and overseas.

Zoos are valuable places where we can see rare animals. They also have important tasks to preserve species and study of animal biology and psychology.

However, for animals at the zoo, they are forced to live their lives in a small space forever, unlike wild animals. They are neither able to live in their rich natural environment nor live with tribes. And this is passed on to several generations.

How do they feel in such an environment and how does their instincts change? I launched 4 projects and I continue shooting at the zoo to find their instincts from various angles.
