Infidel by Tim Hetherington (1970 – 2011)
I first came across Tim Hetherington’s photography work after he won the World Press Photo of the Year award in 2007 for his photograph of an American soldier resting in a bunker in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley.
Steve McCurry: The Iconic Photographs
Mention the famous National Geographic Afghan Girl picture, you think of Steve McCurry right away. The image of the girl with her shy, yet intense eyes is vivid in your mind. That image speaks for Steve McCurry on its own, one of the most outstanding photographers in our times. Widely known for his characteristic style of capturing the intimate essence of human beings, he has recently launched a book, titled Steve McCurry: The Iconic Photographs, a large format limited edition book that features 165 of his most famous photographs. Video: The Nikon F Story
We have a special place for the Nikon F series of cameras. The Nikon FM2, and later the F3 and F4, were the first cameras we used when we started our journey in photography, as they probably were for many others. Here is a NHK video we chanced upon showing how the Nikon F was made – The Nikon F Story.

Video: How the Voigtlander Nokton 25mm f/0.95 lens is made
The Voigtlander Nokton 25mm F/0.95 is an amazing lens for Micro Four Thirds (M4/3) cameras. We have one of them that we use to shoot videos with the Panasonic GH2 camera. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how this popular and rather hard-to-get (due to over demand) lens is manufactured.
Bruce Lee & The Tao Of Photography
We are huge fans of Bruce Lee – the man, martial artist and philosopher. Undeniably one of Asia’s greatest icons, Bruce Lee invented his own brand of martial arts called Jeet Kune Do. In the Tao Of Jeet Kune Do or Way Of The Intercepting Fist, Bruce shared philosophy behind his martial arts that serves just as well for the photographer and the art of photography. Learn the principle, abide by the principle, and dissolve the principle. Learn and practice the principles of photography, then break the rules to form your own method of photographing. Empty your mind, be formless. …
The Classic Street Photography Kit: Leica M2 Rangefinder + 35mm Lens
To mark our first anniversary, we are hosting our first Street Photography Contest with a first prize comprising of what we believe is the classic street photography kit – a black Leica M2 rangefinder camera paired with a Voigtlander Nokton 35mm F/1.4 lens. Here’s a little more information on our first prize kit. LEICA M2 Rangefinder Camera One of the best ways to describe the Leica M2 is a street photography tank with a sniper’s viewfinder. Sure, today’s world is one of digital speed and automated convenience, but nothing quite beats the experience and feeling of photographing with an all metal, …

Feel Before You Shoot. Think Before You Write.
Often times we see a wonderful photograph scarred by a badly written caption or title. Let the photograph emote, and it should if you photograph with passion and emotion, and let the caption/title text be a simple description or statement of facts. Simplicity works, always will – Feel before you shoot, think before you write that caption.
The Secret Tool In A Great Photographer’s Camera Bag.
The secret tool in a great photographer’s camera bag is ‘ACCESS’. We all take good photographs, or at least we should be, but the ones that stand head and shoulders above the rest are those where the photographer has made that extra effort, gained that extra trust and access, and shot pictures of a subject with that much more intimacy and insight. So, next time you consider upgrading your tools, invest in ACCESS.
