Announcing the 2018 finalists of the Documentary, Art, Young Portfolio and Photobook categories in the Invisible Photographer Asia Awards.
The 40 finalists, representing diverse territories from Nepal to Thailand to China, reveal a significant evolution of not only our awards five years ago, but the image-making landscape in Asia. As one of our jurors mentioned, the awards is as much a recognition program as it is a survey of sorts, not only of photography in Asia, but our times.
Award winners selected out of the finalists will be announced soon, and will win prizes from our partners G-Technology and Sony. Award winners will also be featured in an exhibition in Singapore at Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film in July.
Congratulations to the following photographers and artists!

“It was great to see that people were thinking beyond a narrow definition of what it means to document issues, and that applied to the art category too, but that wasn’t quite such a surprise because we’re used to seeing different approaches from artists.” Robert Godden, 2018 Awards Jury.
“We often, and quite directly, measure the value of photographs in monetary terms, because we are concerned with recognition that leads to good funding for our works. However, we cannot overlook the social values and meanings of photography. It is the best visual art form in documenting what happened in the past and present, for a future audience. Its values can be assessed, often in retrospect, within the larger historical context.” Wang Xi, 2018 Awards Jury.
“As the awards exhibition partner, I’m excited to challenge the audience here in Singapore and to encourage and inspire them to see the world and our surroundings in a new way.” Emmeline Yong, 2018 Awards Jury.
“Having an award that focuses on Asia is good because it narrows the focus and allows more specific conversations and dialogue.” Jessica Lim, 2018 Awards Jury.
